I found this heavenly sauce in a book of handwritten recipes from my grandmother, and since I tried it, I haven't cooked any other.

Ingredients (what you need)

0.5 kg ground meat
1 - 2 pcs eggs
1 pc onion
sweet ground paprika
soy sauce
breadcrumbs
salt
chili spice

2 cans tomato puree
2 - 3 pcs bay leaves
6 - 8 whole allspice berries
salt
2 - 3 tablespoons sugar
1 pinch thyme
4 pcs cloves
6 - 8 whole black peppercorns
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
sweet ketchup
4 tablespoons oil

Recipe steps

Meatballs

Put ground meat in a bowl, add an egg, finely chopped onion, soy sauce, salt, pepper, sweet paprika, and a little chili powder to taste, and mix. After the mixture combines, start adding breadcrumbs as needed. When the meat mixture is thick enough, shape it into evenly sized balls, which we can either boil in boiling water (first make a small ball and try to throw it into the water; if it doesn't break apart, we have the right consistency), or we can bake them in the oven until golden while being moistened with water.

Tomato Sauce

In a deep pot, sauté the onion in butter until golden, add spices (bay leaf, whole pepper, allspice, thyme, clove, cinnamon), sprinkle with sugar and sauté lightly. Then add tomato paste and after a moment of sautéing, pour in hot water or broth. Add ketchup and stir in smooth flour mixed with water. Stir the sauce for a while to prevent the flour from clumping, let it thicken, and cook for about 20 minutes. Taste the finished sauce and add sugar or salt if needed, then stir well and pour through a sieve into another pot.

Grandma's tomato sauce is served with cooked meatballs. Suitable side dishes are bread dumplings, pasta, or rice.
