Ingredients (what you need)
350 g lentils
1 onion
oil
2 teaspoons garam masala
2 carrots
2 thick slices of celery
1 can of chopped tomatoes (450 g)
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 teaspoon pepper
(flour for thickening)
fresh parsley
Recipe steps
We thoroughly check the lentils, rinse them, and let them soak overnight in cold water. We peel the onion, chop it into small pieces, and sauté it in oil. At the end of the sautéing, we add garam masala and briefly fry it to release the spices.
We grate the carrot and celery finely and sauté them together for about 5 minutes. Then we add the drained lentils, crushed tomatoes, and pour in water until it reaches about 2 cm above the lentils. We add salt, pepper, sugar, a bay leaf, cover with a lid, and bring to a boil.
From the moment the mixture starts to boil, we cook for 25-30 minutes. We can add water if necessary, but just enough to cover the lentils. If the dish is too liquid, we can thicken it with a spoonful of flour mixed in a small amount of cold water. Finally, we season to taste.
