Traditional Christmas loaf

Traditional Christmas loaf
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Servings: 4

We will make a starter from a little flour, milk, and sugar.

Ingredients (what you need)

dough 150 g lard
2 pcs egg yolk
1 kg all-purpose flour
100 g peeled almonds
1 packet raisins
50 g butter
1 pcs vanilla sugar
50 g yeast
500 ml milk
0 pcs 1/2 nutmeg (grated)
10 g salt
200 g powdered sugar

Recipe steps

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the dough except for the almonds and raisins. Add the yeast, milk, and melted lukewarm butter with lard. Knead this into a dough, into which we fold the raisins and part of the almonds at the end. Cover and let it rise.

Depending on how many braids we want to make, we divide it into portions. From these, we shape balls, which we let rise again for about 30 minutes. Then we roll them out into braids, from which we weave the Christmas bread and let it rise again.

We brush the Christmas bread with beaten egg and sprinkle it with chopped almonds.

We place it in a preheated oven at 200°C. After about 5 minutes, we reduce the temperature to 180°C and bake until the desired color is achieved, approximately for an hour.

We decorate the finished Christmas bread with powdered sugar.
