A sponge cake of a specific shape, we all know it well, it is popular not only in the Czech Republic but also in Poland, Austria, and Slovakia, the bundt cake is well known. Many Czechs cannot imagine Sunday or a visit to their grandmother without it; our grandmothers have been baking it from the same recipe for years.

Back then, they couldn't even imagine what would be added to the bundt cake today, from nuts to kefir, pudding, and apples to zucchini. Drizzled with chocolate, lemon, or icing, whether it’s beaten, yeasted, or cup-style, at least the shape across flavors and countries has remained the same. I don’t know if there’s anywhere written what a classic Czech bundt cake should look like or taste like, but I know that my grandmother’s was always the best.
That’s why I did some digging and found my grandmother’s recipe, and in the end, I also searched my memory and remembered that she always changed something, took away a little here and added a little there. Therefore, the recipe can be any, but only grandmothers had their tricks to make their bundt cake the best for their grandchildren. I tried my grandmother's recipe, and it turned out well, the bundt cake was good but not exactly as she used to make.
Every bundt cake is made differently, and different things are added to each one. I’m basing this on this recipe and how my grandmother did it; again, everyone did it their own way. It’s less sweet, so anyone who likes sweets can add more sugar; if you mix the batter in a mixer, just put everything in the bowl and start it.
If you choose the manual method like I did, crack all 4 eggs into a bowl and add sugar. Whisk the eggs with the sugar until frothy, add milk, mix flour with baking powder, and combine it into the mixture, and finally stir in melted butter. Separate part of the batter into a bowl and mix it with cocoa; you can also add nuts, coconut, chocolate chips, or dye it with food coloring. In a greased and breadcrumb-dusted mold, put part of the light batter, then the chocolate batter, and finally the rest of the light batter. Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C for about 2 hours until golden; pierce the baked bundt cake with a toothpick, and if it comes out clean, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool. Once cooled, turn it out of the mold onto a plate or tray, dust with powdered sugar, and it’s ready.
