Mazánek

We enjoy having mazanec for breakfast or with afternoon tea.
Ingredients (what you need)
almonds - slices
raisins
250 ml semi-skimmed milk
110 g butter
1 piece vanilla sugar
110 g granulated sugar
salt
500 g flour - semi-coarse
3 pieces egg yolks
25 g yeast
1 piece egg
Recipe steps
Pour a little lukewarm milk into a cup, crumble the yeast, add a bit of flour, and lightly sprinkle with sugar. We’ll make a yeast starter and set it aside.
We can soak the raisins in rum for a while.
In a bowl, pour in the semi-coarse flour. Add the egg yolks. Add the butter, vanilla sugar, and granulated sugar. Pour in the milk and add a pinch of salt.
Drain the raisins and add them to the bowl as well. Add the chopped almonds and the prepared yeast starter. (Keep a little almonds for later to sprinkle on top). Knead everything thoroughly and let it rise.
Then shape the dough into a round loaf. Let it rest on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
Make a cross cut on top of the loaf and brush it with egg. Decorate the surface with almond slices. Put it in the oven. After twenty minutes, reduce the temperature to 120 °C and bake for about 25 minutes.
After baking, sprinkle with powdered sugar, or you can spread butter or jam on it.
