We take the cleaned head of cabbage and chop it. We put it in a bowl, add salt, sugar, drizzle with olive oil, add vinegar and caraway seeds. We mix it well by hand and then let it rest in the refrigerator for about an hour to let the cabbage soften.

1 tablespoon olive oil
to taste sugar
vinegar of your choice (herb vinegar is ideal)
salt
caraway seeds

Recipe steps

Now we can finish the salad to our own taste. Some may enjoy adding grated carrots, personally I find that sautéed bacon enhances the flavor, while my girlfriend prefers dill.

This prepared salad is used as a side dish for meat dishes, potato pancakes, and other meals.
